Firefighters from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties will gather in Goleta on Wednesday for the annual Interagency Wildland Urban Interface drill.

The drill will take place in the area of the Holiday Fire.

The Holiday Fire broke out on July 6, 2018, burned 113 acres, and destroyed ten homes.

Fire officials say the purpose of the drill is to train firefighters on structure defense tactics including home preparation, hose deployment skills, helicopter operations, and life safety measures. They say lessons learned from previous fires can help improve fire safety during future emergencies.

Approximately 100 firefighters will be in the areas of North Fairview Ave. and Highway 154/Cathedral Oaks Rd. from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 8.

Firefighters will notify homeowners in the area of North Fairview Ave. prior to the drill.
