UPDATE: Fires south of Shandon 100% contained

UPDATE (3:28 p.m.) – CAL FIRE says the six fires that broke out Monday south of Shandon are now all 100 percent contained.

UPDATE (1:46 p.m.) – CAL FIRE says forward progress of the fires south of Shandon has been stopped. The fires are 50 percent contained and are estimated to have burned about 120 acres.


 

UPDATE (1:10 p.m.) – CAL FIRE reports that the fires, collectively called the Bitter Fire, have burned between 40 and 50 acres and are now 15 percent contained.

Fire officials say firefighters are making good progress.


 

(12:29 p.m.) – Firefighters were responding to a string of vegetation fires that broke out Monday afternoon south of Shandon.

The fires were reported at about 12:15 p.m. along Bitterwater Rd.

According to CAL FIRE, there are six separate fires. Combined, they’ve burned a total of 20 acres so far.
