UPDATE (9:45 p.m.) – A Central Coast family has lost their home after fire breaks out in Heritage Ranch.
CAL FIRE says the home that caught on fire Monday afternoon is a complete loss.
The residents who lived in the home are now being helped by family members and Red Cross.
The fire which began in the house spread to nearby vegetation and burned approximately 4.3 acres, according to CAL FIRE.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE (6:48 p.m.) – Salvage and mop up operations in progress in Heritage Ranch after a fire in a home spread to nearby grass.
CAL FIRE credits an aggressive initial attack by the air and by the first engines on the ground for protecting other homes in the neighborhood nearby.
Forward progress of the fire was halted at about 4 acres within 45 minutes of the first 9-1-1 call at 3:30 p.m at the home at 2760 Saddleback Lane.
CAL FIRE received assistance from multiple North County agencies including Atascadero, Templeton and San Miguel fire departments.

The home appears to have suffered major damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE (4:15 p.m.) – CAL FIRE reports that forward progress of the vegetation fire on Saddleback Ln. in Heritage Ranch has been stopped.
UPDATE (4:06 p.m.) – CAL FIRE says a vegetation fire that spread as a result of a house fire in Heritage Ranch is holding at about 3 1/2 acres.

UPDATE (4 p.m.) – CAL FIRE reports that two acres of grass are burning with a moderate rate of spread and there is a potential for it to burn up to 20 acres.
Additional crews have been requested to fight the fire in Heritage Ranch.
(3:45 p.m.) – Firefighters responded to a structure fire Monday afternoon in Heritage Ranch.
It was first reported at about 3:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Saddleback Ln.
CAL FIRE reports that the fire has spread to nearby vegetation and has burned approximately one acre.
