McAlister Training, a fitness studio in San Luis Obispo, is partnering with Transitions Mental Health Association for Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. Saturday, September 14, McAlister Training will host a one hour workout at The Cliffs in Shell Beach from 10 a.m.-11 a.m.

"It's an all levels workout so we're inviting everyone,” Michael McAlister, the studio’s co-owner said. “We just want the community to join together to have fun and workout and it's for an incredible cause."

The workout will be interval based and is intended for all levels. McAlister says his dad passed away nearly two years ago after taking his own life, so the event is personal to him.

“This event is really special to us because it's bringing awareness to how serious mental health really is," McAlister said.

Michael’s wife, Lauren McAlister, who co-owns the studio, says there will also be a chance for attendees to enter a raffle for prizes and that all money raised will go towards THMA’s suicide hotline.

"Mental health, I think, is number one, it's the top priority,” Lauren said. “We have a really strong focus on community and feeling a sense of belonging in a place, and I think that is one thing I think can positively contribute to mental health."
