UPDATE (12:25 p.m. Friday) - CHP says one of the drivers, identified as Brian W. Dul of Goleta, was arrested for DUI. His injuries were described as moderate. His passenger, identified by the Santa Barbara County Coroner's Office as Cole Debortoli, 21, of Santa Barbara, was killed in the crash.
Officers say Dul crossed into oncoming traffic causing his Mazda 3 to crash into a Toyota 4Runner east of San Marcos Road.
The two people in the vehicle CHP says Dul hit were a man and woman in their 50s from Long Beach. Their injuries were described as minor.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person died and three others were hurt in a crash Thursday evening on Highway 154 in the Santa Barbara area.
The two-car crash happened at about 6 p.m. on Painted Cave Road and required extrication.
One of the victims died at the hospital. Their name has not been released.
Injuries for the other three ranged from minor to moderate, according to fire officials.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause.
