UPDATE: Santa Maria police make arrest in deadly suspected DUI crash

Police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors for both drivers involved

UPDATE: Santa Maria Police arrested a man Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing a deadly crash.

Michael Lee, 25, of Santa Maria was arrested and booked for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving a vehicle under the influence causing injury.

Police say alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash between both drivers.

The identity of the other driver who died has not been released.

One person died in a suspected DUI crash in Santa Maria early Friday morning, according to police.

Few details are being released at this time, but Santa Maria police say the crash involving two vehicles happened at about 1:19 a.m. eastbound on Stowell Road about 1/4 mile east of Blosser Road.

Police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors for both drivers, identified as men in their 30s who knew each other.

One driver died at the scene. Police say the other was arrested for DUI and could face additional charges pending completion of the investigation.

The road is expected to be closed in the area for much of the day Friday.
