The California Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed in a crash on Highway 1 south of Lompoc Monday as Linda Bailey, 72, of Lompoc.

CHP says Bailey was traveling northbound when, for an unknown reason, she made an unsafe turning movement and drifted into the southbound lane. Her car crashed head-on into a pickup truck and Bailey died at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the pickup were reportedly uninjured.

Highway 1 was closed in both directions for about 3.5 hours while the wreckage was removed and CHP officers conducted an investigation.

Officers are asking any witnesses to the crash to contact CHP Officer Rogers at (805) 688-5551.

This is the third deadly crash along this stretch of Highway 1 in a week.

The first crash occurred on Monday, Sept. 17. A 66-year-old woman and her dog were killed in a head-on collision that was nearly identical to the crash that killed Bailey.

On Friday, Sept. 21, another head-on crash took the life of a 73-year-old man. The driver of the vehicle that hit him was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
