The City of San Luis Obispo has acquired an additional 266 acres of open space.

The land is part of the Miossi Brothers La Cuesta Ranch.

It’s located at the headwaters of San Luis Obispo Creek in the Cuesta Canyon area.

City officials say the land will be used for the conservation of rare plants and habitat for steelhead trout and other animals. It will also include trails for the community, linking existing trails from Poly Canyon to the West Cuesta Ridge area.

It’s expected to be open to the public in 2019.

City officials say the property is valued at $1.3 million. It will be paid for with the city’s Open Space Acquisition Funds, grants from the State of California Habitat Conservation Fund, and a donation from the Forbes family.

The acquisition brings the total available open space land owned by the city to more than 4,000 acres.
