The California Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a fiery crash near Arroyo Grande over the weekend as Jason Vincent, 45, of Hanford.

Vincent died after his pickup crashed into a tree along Carpenter Canyon Road and Noyes Road Sunday night.

The vehicle caught fire and the flames then spread to nearby vegetation.

Witnesses who heard the crash told KSBY News they attempted to save the driver and the dog inside, but the flames spread too quickly.

A CHP officer called their actions “heroic.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
