Team USA just wrapped up a three-day national tryouts for the senior dragon boat crew in Morro Bay.
The team is preparing for World Championships in Thailand in August next year. This weekend 60 athletes came out in hopes of making the team.
Head coach Pat Bradley says dragon boating is the ultimate team sport as each member needs to learn how to paddle cohesively as a team.
“They come from different backgrounds and different stroke techniques and what we have to do is basically take these athletes and get them working together and adapt technique stroke so that we’re doing the same thing at the same time with a ton of power,” said Bradley.
Next week, Team USA will have another tryout on the east coast.
Only 44 athletes will make the cut.
