The Santa Maria Police Department is hosting its first trunk-or-treat event for families in the area.
The department encourages families and children to dress up in their Halloween costumes for an early evening of trick-or-treating out of the decorated trunks of police cars.
Kids will even get to hang out with police officers and take pictures with some of the vehicles on location, like a motorcycle and patrol cars.
The trunk-or-treat event is held as a safe alternative to regular trick-or-treating, by joining community members together for what typically is done door-to-door.
“We wanted to have something for the community to get everybody involved let the kids have a safe and fun environment to spend time with officers but also trick or treat and get candy,” said Officer Monique Sandoval from the Santa Maria Police Department.
The inaugural trunk-or-treat event will be held on October 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Santa Maria Police Department located at 1111 W. Betteravia Road.
