A woman found dead in her Grover Beach home last week was stabbed to death, according to police, who are asking for the public’s help with the investigation.

Grover Beach police responded to the home on the 200 block of South 9th Street late in the morning Thursday, Oct. 25, and found Athena Ilona Valentiny dead from apparent stab wounds.

Police, who first described the death as suspicious, now say Valentiny was a victim of homicide.

Investigators would like to talk to anyone who may have known or worked with the 64-year-old or who saw anything unusual near her home last Wednesday or Thursday.

Police are also looking for the victim’s dog, believed to have left the home one of those days.
