Some animal shelters on the Central Coast are hoping to clear out their facilities over the weekend with a Black Friday fee-waived adoption sale.
All of the dogs and cats at Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo County are being offered for free this November 23-25.
Normally, adoption fees range from $65 to $200, but a grant from the ASPCA and Subaru has allowed the shelter to waive those fees for a limited time.
“Our goal really is to clear the shelters, get all the animals out into good homes, which frees up space here at Woods so we can take in more animals that need our assistance,” said Jill Tucker, Executive Director of Woods Humane Society.
All adoptable animals at Woods are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and come with a free month of pet insurance.
Woods’ adoption centers are located at 875 Oklahoma Ave. in San Luis Obispo and 2300 Ramona Rd. in Atascadero. They are open from noon to 6 p.m. Visit the Woods Humane Society website for more information.
Seven animal shelters in Santa Barbara County are also waiving adoption fees this weekend for dogs and cats six months of age and older.
“There are a lot of animals that need homes and some people maybe can’t afford to pay the adoption fee, so this is a great opportunity to match up some really awesome animals with some really awesome people,” said Catalina Dorothy, who adopted a cat named “Ambrosia” from the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society on Friday.
Other participating shelters include ASAP (Animal Shelter Assistance Program), Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society, Santa Barbara Humane Society, Santa Maria Animal Center, Lompoc Animal Shelter, and Santa Barbara Animal Shelter.
Every dog and cat being made available for adoption this weekend in Santa Barbara County is examined by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and goes home with a free supply of dog or cat food.
