Man killed in Atascadero car crash overnight

A man died early Sunday morning after he lost control of his car and drove it off a roadway edge and into a fence, according to CHP.

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. on Highway 101 in Atascadero.

CHP said the male driver was going north on El Camino Real south of Asuncion Road. CHP said they are still investigating why the driver lost control of his Toyota, drove it off the shoulder of the road and crashed.

After the crash, CHP said the driver was ejected out of the car.

According to CHP the driver had life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP is investigating the incident and said driving under the influence is not suspected to be a factor in the case.
