UPDATE (12 p.m.) – Police say a man detained after a shooting Thursday morning in Santa Maria was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm.
Police say they received a report of a man shooting a gun into the air. Witnesses reportedly gave police a description of the suspect’s truck and they quickly located him, he surrendered and was taken into custody.
A neighbor says the man had been living in his truck on Mill Street for about a year.
(11:18 a.m.) – Santa Maria police say they have detained a suspect following a shooting in the area of 200 W. Mill Street.
It happened before 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Police say officers responded to the area after a report of gunshots being fired from a vehicle.
They say the area is now safe but officers will be there for some time conducting an investigation.
