Two sections of Highway 1 in the Big Sur area reopened at noon on Friday after being closed during the recent rain storm.
The areas known as Paul’s Slide and Mud Creek, both active landslide areas, were closed on Wednesday as a safety precaution during the storm.
Caltrans says its Geotechnical Design, Construction and Maintenance staff conducted an extensive inspection of the conditions at the two sites Friday morning.
The closures were part of a new plan by Caltrans intended to keep drivers safe during significant storm systems.
