Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of multiple shots being fired in the Santa Ynez riverbed near Lompoc.

SBCSO officials say at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, two hikers in the Santa Ynez riverbed reported shots were fired near them, and possibly at them.

Deputies searched the area, at around 9:30 p.m. they discovered suspicious circumstances outside of a two-story structure in the riverbed. During their search of the premises, deputies found a vehicle with bullet holes and a trail of blood near it.

The Special Enforcement Team, K-9 unit, and SBCS Fire and Air support were called to assist as sheriff’s deputies continued to search the perimeter.

Officials say a male and female subject were found unharmed inside the structure. They are being questioned to determine whether or not they are persons of interest of the earlier shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, and a search continues for outstanding victims.

This is a developing story and will be updated when further information becomes available.
