Court finds Lompoc woman accused of causing deadly crash competent for trial

Posted

A Lompoc woman accused of causing a deadly crash near Gaviota this October was found competent to stand trial Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.

Dinara Arevalo, 25, is charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and evading an officer causing death.

She’s accused of leading law enforcement officers on a car chase that ended when she lost control on Highway 101 and hit another vehicle, which then crashed into a truck. A passenger in the truck later died from his injuries.

At a court hearing in October, Arevalo’s attorney argued that his client was not competent to stand trial.
