Santa Maria’s Depot Street alleyway targeted for improvement project

The Santa Maria City Council will consider a contract for improvements along the Depot Street alley at its meeting Tuesday night.

The alley is near the railroad tracks, between West Morrison Avenue and West Liberty Street. It’s close to Santa Maria High School, Adam Elementary School, and Sanchez Elementary School and is often used by students walking to-and-from school.

There have been issues with drainage, lighting, and trash. Now, the city is looking into creating a new sidewalk, curb, gutter, fencing, and lighting.

City leaders say this will be a major improvement for the neighborhood, and it will allow people to walk from Stowell Road to Morrison Street.
