California State Parks officials are warning beachgoers that because of the high surf this week, they may have to close Oceano Dunes SVRA and Pismo State Beach for safety reasons.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. on Thursday. The National Weather Service expects surf of 11 to 15 feet with local sets to 17 feet.

For those who do plan to travel to the Oceano Dunes, State Parks recommends four-wheel drive vehicles, and officials say you should check the tide tables and plan your visit accordingly.

State Parks says it will update its Facebook page with information about the parks.
