UPDATE (Jan. 4, 2019; 5:15 p.m.) – A man whose body was found in a remote area of Montaña de Oro State Park was a Cal Poly student.

The university sent an email to students and staff Friday saying Michael Kullman was a fourth-year Industrial Technology and Packaging major who had grown up in Arroyo Grande.

In the email, the university said Kullman was the president of Cal Poly’s Industrial Technology Society student club and was also involved with his local church.

President Jeffrey Armstrong says the university has been in contact with Kullman’s family to offer support.

“As we return to campus in the new year, let’s take the time to come together in community and remember Michael,” said Armstrong in a campus-wide email.

Counseling services are available for Cal Poly students 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
