The City of Grover Beach has a new council member.

Desire “Desi” Lance was appointed Monday night to fill the seat vacated by Jeff Lee, who was elected to mayor in November.

Lance is a self-employed contract business immigration attorney who has lived in Grover Beach for the past eight months.

“As a small business owner, home owner, lawyer, and mother, I believe I have a diversity of experience that would make me an incredible asset to the City Council. Not only do I have a passion for the community, but people and their stories generally. From serving as Vice President of a professional organization to running my own business and graduating at the top of my law school class, I believe I am experienced and educated enough to take on this role,” Lance noted on her application.

Following her appointment, Lance said, “I am excited about this opportunity to serve the community where my family and I have put down roots and call home,” Lance said in a press release. “I look forward to working with residents to understand their desires, brainstorm solutions, and collaborate to make solutions become a reality.”

She was chosen from 11 qualified applicants and sworn-in following her appointment Monday night.

“The City Council was pleased to appoint Ms. Lance as a Council Member and she will bring a fresh voice
and perspective to the Council,” said Mayor Jeff Lee in a press release. “I also want to thank the other applicants for their interest in this position and encourage them to remain involved in helping our community.”
