Smart911 is now available in San Luis Obispo County, the sheriff’s office announced on Wednesday.
Smart911 is a free service that allows people to sign up online to provide key information to 911 dispatchers during an emergency. In addition to addresses and phone numbers, that can include details about medical conditions, medications, vehicles, pets, emergency contacts, and/or photos of family members.
Providing the information is optional and participants have the ability to choose which details they include.

Sheriff’s officials say when a citizen with a Smart911 Safety Profile makes an emergency call, the information provided in their profile will automatically be displayed to the 911 dispatcher.
Sheriff’s officials say it can help save time and lives.
