Three people are in the hospital with major injuries after getting in a head-on car crash, which resulted in one car catching on fire at approximately 1:38 a.m. Sunday.

The Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to a head-on crash on Highway 154 north of San Antonio Creek Road.

Public Information Officer David Zaniboni said the person driving the car that caught on fire was able to get out of the vehicle, but the two people in the other car got stuck. He said several first responders had to help get them out of the car.

All three people were taken to Cottage Hospital in three different American Medical Response ambulances according to Zaniboni.

He said Highway 154 was closed for about an hour as a result of the incident.

CHP is now investigating the cause of the crash.
