CalFresh benefits issued early because of government shutdown

Posted

Most CalFresh recipients will receive their February nutrition assistance benefits early because of the government shutdown.

According to the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), the move was made in order to access federal funds that may run out as the shutdown continues.

Recipients that have certified CalFresh eligibility for February should see their benefits show up in their account by Jan. 16, 2019.

Families and individuals that had not completed their recertification by January 15 or who are applying for benefits after January 15 will receive their benefits on or after February 1, if federal funds are available.

Officials with Social Services say those who received early benefits should budget accordingly because they won’t receive any additional CalFresh assistance in February.
