New hotel proposed in Pismo Beach

Pismo Beach could soon be getting a new oceanfront hotel.

Plans are in the works to demolish the existing 23-room hotel and three guest cottages that make up the Tides Oceanview Inn and Cottages on Price St.

That would make way for a new 52,000 square foot hotel with 97 rooms, an outdoor pool, spa, restaurant and bar.

Mayor Ed Waage says the city has some concerns about the area.

“One of the key issues we’re always concerned about is traffic and parking and anything that comes before us we’re going to take a real close look at that,” Waage said. “Another issue is also access to the beach. There’s existing stairs there. They’re not usable right now.”

If approved, it would be the third new hotel for Pismo Beach with the other two being right next to the pier.

A public hearing about the project was planned for Tuesday night but that has been postponed.
