Drivers are encouraged to avoid Alameda Padre Serra near Arguello Rd. in Santa Barbara due to a sinkhole.
The sinkhole was reportedly created as a result of heavy rains over the weekend that caused a drainage structure underneath the road to fail.
The area is completely closed and due to the depth of the drainage structure, a timetable for reopening Alameda Padre Serra has not been established.
City engineers and maintenance staff are working on repairing the sinkhole and will reopen the road as soon as possible.
The most effective way to bypass the area is Highway 192 or on the streets closer to downtown Santa Barbara.
