Researchers with the National Estuary Program are warning people to avoid local beaches after recent rains.

Storms over the weekend washed hazardous debris and even furniture onto beaches across the California coastline.

Researchers said local beaches aren’t as bad but waters are still brown from sediment buildup.

They said people should avoid contact with the water for at least 72 hours after a storm. Going into the water too early could put people at risk for getting sick.

The Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach is launching a do-it-yourself beach cleanup program to help clear local beaches after storms.

Staffers say they have everything you need to get started. Just give them a call at (805) 595-7280 to get going.
