The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday morning in the Tanglewood neighborhood southwest of Santa Maria.

It happened at about 11:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of Madrone Dr.

Sheriff’s officials say witnesses described several men with weapons fighting in the street, but by the time deputies arrived, the people involved in the fight had fled.

As deputies investigated further, they located the 39-year-old victim. He was taken to the hospital with what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies also reportedly located the suspect, who they say was armed with a blunt object during the fight.

The sheriff’s office has identified the suspect as Raul Gonzalez, 40, of Santa Maria. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff’s officials say the circumstances surrounding the stabbing are still under investigation but they say the people involved knew each other and that the altercation was the result of a verbal dispute.
