The Santa Barbara City Fire Department wants to remind everyone about the importance of wearing a helmet after two bicyclists were hit Sunday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Padre and Castillo streets.

Fire officials say a young girl and her father were crossing at an intersection that did not have a crosswalk when they were hit by a Toyota Tacoma.

Others nearby were able to pull them out from underneath the truck before firefighters arrived.

The father reportedly suffered moderate injuries and the girl, who firefighters say was not wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries.

“The Santa Barbara City Fire Department would like to remind everyone to promote bicycle safety for your children and have them wear a properly fitted helmet when riding,” the fire department said on a Facebook post about the incident.

No word on if the driver of the truck was cited.
