Santa Barbara County’s new fire chief was sworn in Tuesday in Santa Barbara.
Mark A. Hartwig was appointed to the position last month.
He takes over for Mike Dyer, who had been filling in as chief on an interim basis since Eric Peterson retired in the fall of 2018.
Hartwig’s first day on the job in Santa Barbara County was Feb. 18.
He had been the fire chief of the San Bernardino County Fire District since 2011. In 2017, Hartwig was named the California Fire Chief of the Year by the California State Fire Chiefs’ Association.
Santa Barbara County CEO Mona Miyasato administered the Oath of Office to Hartwig at Tuesday morning at the board of supervisors’ meeting.
