County of Santa Barbara Director of Office of Emergency Services Rob Lewin is planning to leave the agency later this year.

In a letter from County Executive Officer, Mona Miyasato, Lewin is moving on to a new venture of creating a private consulting practice to help local communities with disaster preparedness plans.

He assisted the county through disasters such as the Thomas Fire at the end of 2017, and the Montecito Mudslides just after in early 2018.

Miyasato says Lewin has built the best team the county has ever seen, and brought ownership and leadership to the agency during some of its toughest moments. He even improved emergency alerts for communities across the county, making sure messages are released in Spanish simultaneously.

Lewin previously worked for Cal Fire SLO for nearly four decades and finished his time with the department as Fire Chief until December 2015. He left Cal Fire SLO to start working with the County of Santa Barbara Office of Emergency Services.

Lewin will stay on as Director of OES until the storm season ends in May.
