Santa Barbara County has a new animal services director.

Tara Diller comes with more than 17 years of experience in the animal welfare industry “and has worked successfully on innovative, lifesaving programs that have received local and national recognition,” officials announced in a press release.

Prior to coming to Santa Barbara County, she served as Ventura County Animal Services director where she helped operate two animal shelters and reduced the number of days animals spent there by about a week, officials said.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to be chosen as the next Director of Animal Services. I am excited to work alongside a passionate and dedicated team of staff, volunteers, community partners, stakeholders, and the community who maintain a strong commitment to elevating the human-animal bond while continuing to ensure Santa Barbara County is a leader in the animal welfare movement,” Diller said.

Her first day on the job is set for April 8.
