Winter rains have turned the Central Coast into a sea of green, but lush yards may also mean extra green waste as residents clear out weeds and overgrowth.

The City of Atascadero and Waste Management held a residential green waste drop-off event on Friday so residents could dispose of extra green waste.

They collected 60 tons of compacted green waste in three large bins.

Residents who missed Friday’s collection event should continue to use their green bins to dispose of their green waste each week.

Acceptable green waste includes grass clippings, leaves, houseplants, tree branches, weeds, twigs, and roots from pruning. Tree trunks must be cut into pieces.
