Various local groups came together on Saturday to clean up the Oceano Dunes Recreation Area.
Those who frequent the dunes and other members of the community unified in an effort to get rid of trash and other debris.
The event, known as the Jerk Pirate Beach Bash, is a joint effort between state parks and the Jerk Pirates off-road group, Orchard City RV, and other Central Coast organizations.
Danny and Lea Henlsey have lead the effort to organize the clean up days and keep the dunes trash free.
“This is our background, our backyard,” Danny said. “We love this place so time and time we see trash just starting to build up a little bit. You know, the wind blows some trash. We do our part to keep our back yard clean.”
California State Parks also provided trash bags and permits for the event.
