A sunrise service at Mountainbrook Community Church in San Luis Obispo attracted hundreds for Easter Sunday.

The traditional Easter Sunday service is the time Christians gather to celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

As the cars made their way to the church on Calle Joaquin before 6 a.m., it was dark and cold. But church-goers prepared for the outdoor service were bundled warmly in jackets, some with blankets and under heat warmers scattered about.

About 40 minutes into the service, many faces lifted to the sky as the sun cleared the clouds and lit up the congregation who were gathered in front of the church.

The hour long service included prayers, songs and a special Easter message of ‘renewal.’
