The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a 31-year-old man from Gaviota.

CHP investigators say the crash happened along Hollister Ranch Rd., just west of La Pasada Rd, sometime between early Tuesday morning, April 23 and 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25.

Samuel A. Mott was reportedly driving a 2017 Aston Martin southbound on Hollister Ranch Rd. when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the road and overturned, landing on its roof.

Mott died at the scene.

CHP says he was reported missing at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mott had reportedly left to take cookies to a friend manning a security booth at Hollister Ranch and did not return.

Emergency crews were notified after Mott’s mother found him inside his vehicle around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to CHP, who says the area is very remote.

Investigators say it’s unknown at this time how fast Mott was driving and whether alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact CHP at (805) 688-5551.
