UPDATE (7:30 a.m.) – Santa Maria Fire says four people were transported to the hospital suffering from minor to moderate injuries following the four-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near Broadway Tuesday morning. One of the injured had to be extricated from their vehicle. Traffic remained backed up as of 7:30 a.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: Traffic is backed on northbound Highway 101 from Broadway to Donovan in Santa Maria Tuesday morning.
California Highway Patrol reported at least four vehicles crashed at about 6:20 a.m.
Three vehicles were reported in the middle of the freeway blocking all three lanes. One pickup was stuck in the ditch.

Within 10 minutes of responding to the crash, CHP was able to clear and reopen two lanes of the highway.

CHP says traffic is moving slowly through the area as they work to clear the scene.
