UPDATE (8:30 a.m.) – CHP reports minor injuries in the crash. Caltrans has closed one of the northbound lanes of Highway 1 while cleanup of the crash takes place.
ORIGINAL STORY: A crash on Highway 1 Saturday morning in Santa Barbara County reportedly sent one vehicle off the side of the road where it caught fire.
It happened near the southbound onramp to Highway 1 outside Gaviota.
Initial reports into the California Highway Patrol were that an SUV and car were involved. The car reportedly went off the side of the road, igniting a brush fire that “was spreading quickly.”
The driver was out of the vehicle, according to reports, but an ambulance was requested at the scene.
Shortly before 7 a.m., northbound traffic was being stopped at San Julian.
Tow trucks were en route as of 7:45 a.m.
No other information was immediately available.
