The City of Santa Maria is continuing discussions on a new ordinance that would make it easier for people to report illegal fireworks.
Councilmembers voted 5-0 in favor Tuesday night of introducing the revised illegal fireworks rules, according to City officials.
The item will be up for a second reading and adoption at the next council meeting and if approved, go into effect 30 days after that.
The new rule would allow a single witness to report the use of illegal fireworks as long as they have video evidence.
As the ordinance is written now, it takes two witnesses to file a report about someone using illegal fireworks.
