A prescribed burn window opens at Camp Roberts this week to allow for live fire training.
The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District has set the window between May 21 and June 8, weather permitting.
During that window, CAL FIRE plans to conduct a training burn from Wednesday, May 22 to Friday, May 24. Approximately 300 acres of grass will be burned over the three-day period.
Approximately 45 firefighters will be participating in the training course. CAL FIRE says they’ll gain in-depth knowledge of ignition tools, equipment, techniques, and strategies, as well as how weather, fuels, and topography affect fire behavior.
