The San Luis Obispo Triathlon is looking for volunteers to celebrate its 40th year with a variety of athletic, family and creative events for the community. The city is hosting the triathlon Sunday, July 28 at Sinsheimer Park.

Dave Setterlund, director of recreation services for the city, said the triathlon is a long-standing tradition.

“Over time we have to adapt and change and modify and do things differently,” said Setterlund.

Setterlund said it takes a village to manage activities at the triathlon. This time around the city needs 300 volunteers to help maintain a variety of events.

Along with celebrating health and fitness the triathlon also features live bands and food trucks.

“The park should be happening it should be a great place to be,” he said. “It should be a good time had by all.”

The city held its first triathlon in 1979 to celebrate the construction of the community pool at the San Luis Obispo Swim Center. Volunteers can register on the city’s website.
