Assuming weather conditions allow, a three-acre burn at Morro Bay State Park and a five-acre burn at Hearst San Simeon State Park will take place between Wednesday, May 29 and Friday, May 31.
These burns will be the start of rotational burns in order to manage vegetation, restore natural ecosystem processes, and reduce the woody debris from dead and dying trees.
Burning will result in a natural disturbance to the ecosystem, encourage healthy plant communities, and will reduce fuel loads.
California State Parks, CAL FIRE, the Air Pollution Control District, and the Morro Bay Fire Department will all be involved in these burn procedures.
