On Monday, June 3, a $500,000 project to improve pedestrian safety will get underway near Highway 246 in Buellton.
Rectangular illuminated flashing beacons to alert motorists of an upcoming pedestrian crossway and improved crosswalk striping and new signs will be included in the project.
Highway 246 in Buellton will also feature a new median island for pedestrians, a specific left turn lane at La Lata Drive and new crosswalk striping.
Motorists will experience lane closures and around 5-minute delays, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at each construction location.

Nine other locations in Lompoc and a portion of Highway 1 between Morro Bay and Cayucos will also see pedestrian improvements, but construction won’t take place there until August or early September.
