Central Coast residents can help save a life by giving blood at an upcoming blood drive in Santa Maria.

Vitalant and the City of Santa Maria are teaming up to put on the drive in order to encourage the community to step up and give back through a donation.

All blood types are welcomed, especially those with Type O-negative blood. This is because it is known as the universal blood type. Type AB plasma donors are also highly encouraged to give because it is the only plasma used for trauma patients and neonatal babies.

City officials will be on hand giving blood.

Organizers of the event say it will only take a short amount of time to donate.

The blood drive will be held on Thursday, June 13th, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Vitalant bloodmobile located in the parking lot between the Paul Nelson Aquatics Center and the lawn bowling court on South McClelland.

You can make an appointment by calling the coordinator, Mark van de Kamp, at (805) 925-0951 ext. 2372.
