Dozens of graduating seniors in San Luis Obispo County received $230,000 in scholarships from the Community Foundation.

A total of 60 students earned the money to go toward their next step into higher education. The scholarships were awarded for the students’ academic rigor, financial needs or extracurricular activity throughout their four years in high school.

Many of the scholarships are multi-year, meaning they will continue to roll over and provide financial aid for more than one year of the student’s time at the college or university they attend.

The Community Foundation also gave away more than $186,000 to non-profit organizations across San Luis Obispo County.

43 grants were awarded to programs that support arts and culture, the environment and human services. Specific organizations honored by the Foundation include The Five Cities Diversity Coalition, Transitions Mental-Health Association, Five Cities Youth Baseball, Shower the People, Special Olympics, San Luis Obispo Symphony, San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, Central Coast Ag Network., The Land Conservancy, RISE and Operation School Bell.

The Community Foundation has provided groups with nearly $35 million in donations. The financial gifts are funded by local donors within the community.
