Crash blocks Hwy 1/Brown Rd. intersection west of Santa Maria

One person was taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning at Highway 1 and Brown Rd. west of Santa Maria.

It happened at about 11:25 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Mercedes headed northbound on Highway 1 collided with a white Toyota Highlander and was then pushed into a blue Dodge truck.

The couple traveling in the Mercedes is reportedly visiting from Australia. The woman passenger was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Three other people suffered minor injuries, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The crash blocked the intersection until tow trucks could remove the wrecked vehicles. The roadway was cleared by 12:30 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. The driver of the Mercedes says the Highlander pulled out in front of him.
