Three local high school seniors received scholarships from the family of Kristin Smart during their senior awards ceremonies.
Arroyo Grande student Madisyn Iverson, Atascadero student Mariah Boche and a female student from Nipomo High School all earned this year’s financial gifts.
Each of the recipients met the qualifications set by the scholarship board. These include being interested in global studies or international relations, architecture, law enforcement or forensic science.
The scholarships are funded in part by the non-profit organization, Justice for Kristin, as well as community contributions on the foundation’s website. Its goal is to provide at least $2,100 dollars per scholarship to those being honored. The amount can vary due to outside donations.
The organization’s mission for handing out the scholarships is to provide the financial support for young women in the San Luis Obispo or San Joaquin Counties to pursue their dreams in higher education.
