The City of Atascadero begins construction Wednesday for roadwork on Viejo Camino between La Paloma Court and El Camino Real.
City officials celebrated the roadwork’s groundbreaking Tuesday.

Road paving is expected to take about two weeks while striping should be completed by the end of July.
The roadwork contractor is closing Viejo Camino to through traffic between El Camino Real and the Paloma Park northern driveway during construction.
Motorists are asked to use Santa Barbara Road as a detour to Viejo Camino.
Access to the nearby Bordeaux House Apartments will also be maintained but drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes for access.
The city announced the following roadwork schedule in a press release:
- Wednesday, 6/5: Lowering utilities. Roadway will remain open, but will have intermittent closures and flagging control.
- Thursday, 6/6 – Friday, 6/7: Roadway grinding.
- Monday, 6/10 – Friday, 6/14: Roadway repaving.
