San Luis Obispo Police Chief Deanna Cantrell is warning commuters to stay out of the area while the gas company is out to repair a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.
Chief Cantrell sent out a tweet just after 4 p.m., saying the gas company was setting up traffic control at Higuera and Santa Rosa Streets.
The Gas Company is setting up traffic control on Santa Rosa @ Higuera to repair a gas leak. Please avoid the area if possible during the evening commute.

SLO city permit technician Matt LaFreniere says crews started working on repairing the leak at 4 p.m.
He says the city is currently inquiring about the exact location where the gas leak originated. Officials do not know the severity of the leak at this time.
The gas company should complete the repairs by later tonight and will have it reopened at that time. Temporary plates or asphalt will be put in tonight as final paving will happen at a later time.
This is a developing story and we will update with the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
